Fresh Baked was back at Disneyland this weekend, but mostly just to see some pirates! And the new Market House. And pirates! Here’s what happened this week at Disneyland.
Right off the bat I made for The Columbia, because I heard there were going to be pirates aboard. And there were! These guys were a lot of fun. They mostly mingled, signed autographs and cracked jokes with the guests. They wrapped the trip up with some pirate songs and that was that. It was very nicely done.
We’re off to a good start, right! But then it got soooo much better. I was heading to Tom Sawyer’s Island to see if I could catch Jack Sparrow, and I got something even better. Well I think so anyway. The raft I took to the island INCLUDED The Bootstrappers. That’s right, they played and sang while we took the raft to Tom Sawyer’s Island.
I followed them to the rear of the island where they played a couple of songs, then this guy showed up.
There was another Captain there as well. Captain Squawk. This was an animatronic parrot that interacted with guests. A cast member was there having a normal conversation with the bird, sometimes incorporating guests into the conversation. It was pretty neat to watch and a nice diversion.
Next stop was the Carnation Cafe on Main Street for a go at the PepperJack Skellington Burger. Here’s my seat, right on the rail, and right as a parade was going by.
For what it’s worth, dining at the Carnation during the parade is not everything you might think it is. You basically can’t see anything except for what’s going on on the tallest floats. You can’t see anything happening on the street. And the burger?
It was pretty good. Not mind blowingly good or anything, but good. It’s a $7 burger for $15, so there’s that. And there’s also this.
Those will be purple fries. Now, before you freak out, know that it’s intentional. It’s mean to be more…halloween-ish I guess. But to see purple fries on your plate is still a little bit intimidating. The burger itself was good, and the view was nice. But it wasn’t a $20 meal. I’ll take a meal at the Hungry Bear over this any day.
Last stop is the Market House, or Starbucks, or MarketBucks as I like to call it. I’ll have a full review of the location tomorrow, but I thought I’d give you some photos tonight.
I’ll say this much though, the place was packed. And as soon as I left there I went and got a cup of coffee at the Jolly Holiday. There was nobody there. That made me sad a little.
This week at Disneyland | Pirates Week
And that’s what happened at Disneyland this week. Pirates and coffee. A great combination if ever there was one. See you next week. Fresh Baked!!
