Today I took in our second event in the Limited Time Magic series, the salute to The Golden Horseshoe Revue.  Where the Three Kings show was much less than I expected or hoped, the salute to The Golden Horseshoe Revue was better than I expected.  It wasn’t everything I had hoped for, but it was still better than I thought they would do.

I arrived at the park for rope drop on Saturday at 9 am and made straight for the Horseshoe.  I had no idea what to expect.  I didn’t even know if they were going to be reserving seats that early.  It turns out they were, but not right away.  I had to wait in a short queue on the steps of The Golden Horseshoe for about 15 minutes.  I was then allowed to pick a time for that day and how many attendees I would have.  I observed that you were allowed to reserve seats for others in your party, even if they weren’t with you.  Here’s the ticket.

I returned back to The Horseshoe at about 10:30 am and found a line of people waiting to enter.  In line we were advised that the seating would be family style, with 4 seats to a table.  That means if you had a party of two, you should expect to sit with two other people.  The seating was also first come first serve, but there were quite a few tables in premium viewing areas that were reserved.  For our show, they either didn’t “sell out”, or not everyone showed up.  I know this because I wound up sitting by myself in a very good seat.  But the place was still very full.

As for the show, it was really quite good.  Miss Lilly was the star of course, and she played her part quite well.  Her interactions with the audience were fun, and her singing was great as well.  The can-can dancers were terrific.  I was excited to find they would be part of the show as I love authentic touches such as these.  Being able to re-create and pay homage to the past like this is enjoyable for me.  The singers were fun, but for some reason I didn’t find that they could actually sing that well.  They seemed out of tune maybe, or out of synch.  I’m not sure what it was, it was just off a little.  But it wasn’t a distraction.  They serve mostly as transitions between Miss Lilly’s acts.

The one conspicuous absence from this Golden Horseshoe Revue was a Wally Boag part.  The show was twenty minutes long as-is, so that means o include it would have meant cutting Miss Lilly’s act.  But Wally was as much a part of the original show as Betty Taylor’s character, and deserved something I though.  Instead, all he got was a shout out from Miss Lilly near the end of the show.  But again, it didn’t ruin it for me or anything.  I just thought it would have been even better with him.

Salute to The Golden Horseshoe Revue

In the end, I give the show high marks, and kudos to Disney for creating a great new original piece for everyone to enjoy, if only for a limited time.  If you can’t attend, you can always check out our video of the salute to The Golden Horseshoe Revue.
