Space Mountain return set June 1st this summer!
In a surprising turn of events, Disney has officially stated that the classic Space Mountain will be returning this summer! Per their announcement, Hyperspace Mountain will close on May 29th. After a two day refurb, Space Mountain will be up and running on June 1st. The return is set to coincide with Space Mountains 40th anniversary.
This is just a bit surprising to me in that Disney had given no indication that it would be returning any time sooner than the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. But I’d be willing to guess Disney had heard enough of us say we wanted the classic ride back that they were able to find a reason to. Disney does lover their anniversary celebrations after all.
The only question now is… what version of Space Mountain are we going to get? Dick Dale? Michael Giacchino? Or will they get crazy and opt for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I know more than one of you out there will vote for that option. More than likely though we’ll get the Michael Giacchino track.
I’d like to hear from anyone out there though who is NOT happy with this news. Ironically enough, when I first rode Hyperspace Mountain, I was thrilled with it. I had even said I might be ok with it staying permanently. But then I realized that the tech isn’t that great, especially after seeing it done so well in other attractions. Plus the music. I really missed the music. I’m definitely ready for its return and hope it stays that way.
