2017 Dapper Days are here! But is it too hot?
Dapper Days has been a tradition since February 2011 for guests coming to Disneyland. Historically, being “dapper” simply meant dressing your best on Sundays. Back in the 1950’s and 60’s families would wear their nicest dresses and suits, go to church, then go see a movie or go to a theme park such as Disneyland. I actually really respect those times and I believe Dapper Days is a great way to honor those times.
I had only heard about this day, and have seen it only through Fresh Baked. But from what I’ve seen, it’s pretty magical. Being a theatre major, I have an eye for costuming. People take their cosplay, bounding and just straight up a costume to the full extreme and it’s such a great dedication. I’ve been looking forward to this event for a while now, but as it approaches, I’m now realizing one small problem…it’s going to be so hot!
Southern California, and especially Anaheim, gets SUPER HOT! I am originally from the San Fernando Valley (North of Orange County) and we get hot weather but it’s more of a dry heat. Here in Anaheim, it’s hot plus humidity and already naturally I don’t like to feel uncomfortable. The only time it’s ok to feel wet in my opinion when I’m in Florida or somewhere tropical. The heat is no joke.
BUT I really want to experience doing dapper, so is it worth dressing up?
I have seen some dedicated guests at Disneyland just in general when it comes to bounding AND I cry for the characters being in those heavy costume dresses especially the whole body suits. But I love being a part of the action at Disneyland and I don’t want to miss out!
And let’s not forget about the EXPENSE! You either have all the money in the world and you can buy something vintage at a store, pr get creative and crafty and make your own outfit at home from scratch. Luckily, I have something lying around in the house that I can put together and I HOPE it’s “dapper” enough. I just want to enjoy my time and not feel miserable in the heat!
This is the before effect and I WILL be dressing up this Dapper Day, on April 23rd, for the very first time with a vibe of being a pirate or something Spanish/tango. It’s a long skirt with a cardigan so I am hoping I can make it through the day. But, mainly I am most looking forward to EVERYONE else! How extreme, clever or just simply dressed up as if all of us are back in the 50’s doing Sundays right again!
I’d also like to hear from you guys. Will you be attending? Will you be going dapper? Does the heat bother you? Let us know in the comments below!
FRESH BAKED AND STUFF STAY TUNED FOR PART 2 OF THIS ARTICLE AFTER THE EVENT!
