Disneyland recently announced their schedule of dates and events for the annual Disneyland Lunar New Year celebration. This is a celebration of the Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese traditions. According to the Disneyland announcement, the event will run from Friday, February 8th through Monday February 11th, between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm. And whereas last year the event was held at the Small World Mall, it will be held this year in California Adventure. This of course is due to the Princesses currently getting together at Small World.

So far very few details have been made available. Here are some of the highlights
- Seasonal spotlights – This can be translated to mean decorations that will include Chinese lanterns and signage.
- Chinese New Year procession hosted by Mulan – Not quite a parade I’d imagine, but fun nonetheless!
- Special photo opportunities – Likely to include Mickey, Minnie, and Mulan at least in appropriate costume.
I would imagine there will also be appropriate food items served nearby at the Pacific Wharf. The annoucement further says only that one should get a daily show calendar for more detail when arriving at the park.
Disneyland Lunar New Year
Personally, I’ve never been to this event, so I’m not sure how good it is. I can say though that seems very much like what they did for the Three Kings celebration earlier this month. I wasn’t that impressed with that one, so hopefully this one is an improvement. The fact that there is a parade of sorts seems to be a good start to me. The thing I don’t like so much is Disneyland, or any other company or establishment for that matter, hanging a few signs, selling a chimichanga or an egg roll, and saying they’re culturally aware. But they’re giving it time and effort, whatever it is, so that’s worth something.

Selling a chimichanga… HA!
