Here’s our article on the formal Disney Infinity press event held January 15th, 2o13.
As we approach the formal press event for the gaming release from Disney on January 15th, a few more details have been released. Or at least leaked. These little bits of info are again leading me to believe that Disney Infinity will be walking a path similar to that of Skylanders.
They’re Still Making the Skylanders Connection
The most recent article I found with Disney Infinity news is from Forbes. Their angle appears to be one leaning toward Disney following instead of taking the lead. The article implies that Disney Infinity is to Skylanders what Rock Band was to Guitar Hero. Well duh!! Nothing like stating the obvious. But I digress…
What I preferred to draw from this article are the statements that a starter pack will ship with a reader and three character tokens. Sully, Jack Sparrow, and Mr. Incredible, and that Disney Infinity…
Promising, but it does still fall short of calling them figures of physical toys. Other characters are supposed to follow that include Jack Skellington, Barbossa, Agent P, and Rapunzel. I’m really starting to fall in love with the idea of discovering, or even trying to predict, what each character’s individual skill would be. What unique ability will they bring that will drive me to want to buy that token or figure?

One point that author makes that I do agree with is that quality is going to be key. Everyone says they want to deliver a quality product, but the reality is that everyone has a bottom line. A profit must be made. But I tell you, if you build it we will come. I’ve encouraged my sons collecting of Skylanders precisely because they are not cheaply made. They are instead of high quality, detailed, and with enough weight as to allow for repeat use. And they look great!
Here’s the Family Gaming TV youtube discussion that was provided in the Forbes article. The author of the article is also the host of this video.
Can Disney Infinity Bring the Quality?
Finally, I found the fact that the article and the video invoked not only Skylanders, but also Minecraft and Little Big Planet. This is the second article I’ve found that said as much. Is it possible that Disney Infinity could mix all three? I’m a fan of Little Big Planet as well, and an even great fan of ModNation Racers (please please please include a racing element), but I’ve never played MineCraft. Very ambitious though to say the least.
So stay tuned and I’ll bring you more news as it comes available.
