There has been a lot of rumor going around about the story behind Disney’s future release of their film titled
“Tomorrowland.” The story, previously under the working title “1952″ has little known background other than that it is written by Lindelof (Lost), directed by Brad Bird (Mission Impossible 4), and starring George Clooney (handsome guy). Oh, and it’s inspired (based?) on a box of memorabilia in a box that includes a photo of Walt Disney among other things.
My theory was that the story would either take place in or be centered around the actual Tomorrowland in Disneyland. There was speculation that aliens were involved, and a cover-up or subterfuge set up by the feds with the help from Disney. Well, if this article by Drew McWeeney at HitFix is any indication, we’re not really close to that.
So you know how they often use “pitches” to sell an idea for a movie? A sentence or two describing the film to peak curiosity from the studio. Here’s what appears to be the pitch for Tomorrowland.
Okay, yeah. There appears to be an alien quotient to this, and it’s about Tomorrowland. But as best as I can tell, this isn’t yours and my Tomorrowland. This is some actualized, for real Tomorrowland that exists in another dimension. And that’s the bad news in my opinion. I really wanted a story about the park and Walt Disney. I have no idea now what we have.
At least I think don’t think so. The story goes on to describe one of the main characters, David Nix, as being in charge of Disneyland. So does one enter the alternate Tomorrowland through Tomorrowland at Disneyland!?!?! If so, I believe I’d be on board with that. There is more in the article, which is a terrific read, but not much more I’m afraid regarding the plot.
What do you guys think? What’s a guy got to do to get a film made about Disneyland?!
